WEEK 6: Delight In Jesus – Christ in you. You in Christ.
DESTINY QUESTION: Lord, who am I in my heart?
See: Phil Mason (2012) The Knowledge of the Heart. The Supernatural Transformation Series. Who I am is reflected outwardly by my choices, decisions, behaviour and life style.
Your key life scriptures, and prophetic words spoken by others, may help you discern God’s answers to your DESTINY Questions. Seek God’s revelation of your DESTINY beyond these 40 days until you have one sentence answers to all the questions.
Listen to what God reveals about the hidden parts of your heart. Journal the spiritual formation of your identity in Christ.
QUICK DEVOTIONAL: Read the words in blue.
DELIGHT in being one with the only true God.
“Eternal life means to know and experience You as the only true God and to know and experience Jesus Christ as the Son whom You have sent.” (John 17:3) We ‘fasten’ and ‘carry’ His Word in our hearts. (John17:6,8) Letting God be God offends human pride but the first command is that we have no other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3). Deep in our soul we need to acknowledge we are not God and quit playing God. Reliance on ourselves – our sonship, self-esteem, self-centredness and self-love breeds self-deception, frustration, slavery and denial of what is wrong in us. (Willard 2002 p11) “So blindly do we all rush in the direction of self-love that everyone thinks he has a good reason for exalting himself and despising all others in comparison.” Calvin said, “the surest source of destruction to men is to obey themselves.” Even when “Christians talk of their ‘brokenness” they are talking about their wounds, the things they have suffered, not of the evil that is in them.” “Without realization of our utter ruin and without the genuine redirecting of our lives, which that bitter realization gives rise to, no clear path to inner transformation can be found.” (Willard 2002 p16)
DISCERN: Is your heart focused on the unveiled Christ or self-centred earthly things? (Philippians 3:19)?
DELIGHT in the astonishing life Jesus gives you!
Jesus prayed we would be joined together as one …and become one with the Father and Son (John17:21). This is the grace of constant, close interaction with God! (Willard 2002 p8)
Jesus enables you to:
- bring the Father glory on earth, by completing the work He gave you to do (John 17:4)
- receive God’s Words and carry them in your heart (John 17:6-8)
- reveal God’s’ glory through your surrendered life (John 17:10)
- represent Him and live a fully dedicated life (John 17:18-19)
- experience perfect unity with God so the world will know Jesus by our love! (John 17:23)
- reign with Him at God’s side! (John 17:24)
“Stand up and praise the LORD your God, who is from everlasting to everlasting. Blessed be Your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.” (Nehemiah 9:5-7)
- DELIGHT in Jesus and invite Him to transform your life.
Tell Jesus the things about Him that deeply DELIGHT you! “I have the joy, joy, joy, joy….down in my heart!”
- Invite Jesus into your friends’ DESTINY.
Father, I pray with Jesus, that my friends will see that You love each one of them with the same endless love that You have for Jesus and that Your love will live in them. (John 18:26)
- Invite Jesus to transform the DESTINY of your region.
“Dear Father always near us, may Your name be treasured and loved, may Your rule be completed in us – may Your will be done here on earth in just the way it is done in heaven. Give us today the things we need today, and forgive us our sins and impositions on You as we are forgiving all who in any way offend us. Please don’t put us through trials, but deliver us from everything bad. Because You are the one in charge, and You have all the power, and all the glory too is all Yours – forever – which is just the way we want it!” (Willard 1998 p296)
