WEEK 1: Delight In Who God Is.
God wants you to know Him.
DESTINY QUESTION: God, Who Are You?
Knowing who your Father is – is key to trusting His divine plan for the earth, your nation, His Bride and yourself. Pause to listen and DELIGHT in what God says to you about who He is.
Journal what you hear and how this helps define your DESTINY journey.
DELIGHT in Following Jesus as the Lord of your life. He will enable you to live out your DESTINY (John 1:49-51)!
DELIGHT in the astonishing truth that Jesus passionately chooses you and pursues you! Jesus asks, “What do you want?” (John 1:38) “Ultimately, despite our professed beliefs and stated objectives, we live the life we choose and therefore have the life we want. Which life do you want? What do you seek?” (Willard 2014 p306)
DELIGHT in the privilege of choosing to be the student, disciple of Jesus! “Intention and decision are absolutely fundamental in… apprenticeship to Jesus.” (Willard 1998 p327)
DESTINY: Jacob’s DESTINY was unlocked when he finally knew who God was and who he (Jacob) was. Even after witnessing an open heaven (Genesis 28:17), Jacob did not accept the God of his fathers as his own God for another 20 years! (Genesis 28:13,20-21; 31:5,29,42,53; 32:9) Finally, at age 40, he had a second intimate encounter and declared, “I won’t let You go until you bless me,” “I have seen God face to face.” (Genesis 32:26, 30). His name and identity was then changed, by God, to ‘Israel’ who then dedicates an altar to El-Elohe-Israel – finally acknowledging, “God, the God of Israel.” (Genesis 33:20) This was so significant to God that He changed His name too – calling Himself, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Genesis 50:24; Exodus 3:6,15,16; 4:5; Deuteronomy 9:52)! This name for God was used throughout the New Testament (Matthew 22:32; Mark 12:26; Luke 13:28; 20:37; Acts 3:13; 7:32). (Sheets 2014 p237-246)
“DESTINY flows from days spent with Jesus – who He is and who He was…” (Sheets 2014 p177) In John 1:36-39, John the Baptist’s disciples followed Jesus and spent the whole day with Him. They began the day calling him “Rabbi” and ended by calling Him “the Messiah.” Andrew learned who Christ is and who Andrew was. “When these two things are known, they unlock DESTINY.” (Sheets 2014 p177) “Those who love and trust Jesus rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy” (1 Peter 1:8). (Willard 2002 ix-x)
DECLARE: “We’ve found the Anointed One! You are truly the Son of God!” (John 1:41,49)
DELIGHT in the eternal truth that because of the Son of Man, you too can see an open heaven. (John 1:51)
REFLECT: What does this mean to you?
DESTINY BLESSING: Pause to DELIGHT in your Father’s grace – His shalom restoration – through this daily blessing from David Tensen of Elijah House
- DELIGHT in Jesus and His DESTINY for your life.
Jesus, I DELIGHT in You as my God! I choose to follow You, Jesus as Your disciple. Through these 40 days I seek to become more and more sensitive to Your leading and insight. Take me as a raw and incompetent beginner and teach me how to live my whole life, my real life as You would live if You were me! Occupy the many rooms in my heart so Your rule grows more surely in me. I love You so much. My hope is in You!
- Invite Jesus into your friends’ DESTINY.
Jesus, my Beloved, I uphold before You the friends I am praying for each day and ask that their spiritual heart eyes and ears be touched to know You, hear You and follow You as their Lord.
- Invite Jesus to transform the DESTINY of your region.
Jesus, Son of Man, I pray people around me will arise as Your disciples – as harvest workers under the continuing outpouring of Your Holy Spirit so we might together fulfil our prophetic DESTINY in our region, nation and beyond.
