WEEK 2: Delight in Who Your Father Designed You To Be
DESTINY QUESTION: Father, Who do You say I am?
To know your DESTINY you need your Father’s perspective of your eternal identity – who you are in heaven. (Cook 2012) Your key life scriptures, and prophetic words spoken by others, may help you discern God’s answers to your DESTINY Questions. Seek God’s revelation of your DESTINY beyond these 40 days until you have clear answers to all these questions.
Pause to discern who you are from heaven’s perspective. Journal what you hear and how this helps define your DESTINY journey.
DELIGHT in Jesus as your first love and our Bridegroom.
John the Baptist said, “He is the Bridegroom and I bring the bride to him.” (John 3:29) We are that Bride! Jesus longs for and feasts upon the devotion of His Bride. (Song of Songs 4:15; 5:1) Our Bridegroom says to us, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock, I f anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20) “The Almighty, the Creator, the Everlasting God of heaven and earth requests the pleasure of your company tonight for dinner!” “May my heart always remain an open door to You Jesus, as I seek to mature in the art of discerning Your knock and Your voice. Sensitize me more and more to Your prompting with every response to Your love.” (Sheets 2014 p43,48)
DECIDE: Do you DELIGHT in Jesus as your first love – the one you put first (Revelation 2:4)? Have you opened your heart to love Jesus with your whole heart, mind, soul and strength (Mark 12:30)? Is Jesus the Bridegroom whose voice causes your joy to be complete and overflowing (John 3:29)?
DELIGHT with Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153), “Jesus the very thought of Thee, with sweetness fills my breast; But sweeter far Thy face to see, and in Thy presence rest.” Thomas Acquinas (1225-1274) said, “love is born of an earnest consideration of the object loved.” (1981 p1300) Thomas Watson (1620-1686) wrote in 1663, “The first fruit of love is the musing of the mind upon God. He who is in love, his thoughts are ever upon the object. He who loves God is ravished and transported with the contemplation of God.” (Willard 2002 p76)
As we behold our Beloved, love becomes our intention, focus, choice and priority. “If anyone is to love God and have his or her life filled with that love, God in His glorious reality must be brought before the mind and kept there in such a way that the mind takes root and stays fixed there. Love for and DELIGHT in God will be elicited and established as the pervasive orientation of the whole self. Love will fill the mind of the willing soul and progress towards an easy and DELIGHTFUL governance of the whole personality.” (Willard 1998 p355) “You will keep in perfect peace those minds are fixed on You because they trust in You.” (Isaiah 26:3 NIV) John 3:33 says, “…those who embrace His message know in their hearts that it is the truth.” TPT Notes say, “The Aramaic is, ‘Those who accept His testimony take God’s true seal (upon them).’”
DESTINY BLESSING: Ask the Holy Spirit to seal your identity in Christ through your Father’s blessing
- DELIGHT in Jesus and His DESTINY for your life.
Immanuel, I DELIGHT in You – the One I adore! I love Your humility! You wait on my company, seeking relationship and intimacy with me. Tune me to the nuances of Your will and pleasure. I repent of distractedness, half-heartedness, multi-tasking and worry in the place of worship. The peace and ecstasy of Your company is my joy when I respond to Your invitations! I seek the fullness of Your Holy Spirit without limitation to rebuke, guide and instruct me so I can walk with You. Thank you Father for Your abundant and sublime love for us all.
- Invite Jesus into your friends’ journey.
Father, You love Jesus so much that all people have been given into His hands (John 3:35). I am so grateful that the eternal DESTINY of my listed friends matters deeply to You. Confront them with truth in Your timing, Holy Spirit so they can choose to be free. Draw them toward baptism. Bestow favour on them, Lord. (John 3:27)
- Invite Jesus to transform the DESTINY of your region.
Lord God Almighty, I seek a revelation of Jesus to the people of Australia. Pour on us “the fullness of the Holy Spirit without limitation” (John 3:34) so we can glorify You and enjoy You thoroughly and forever, telling the universe how great God is to us! (Tozer 2008 p49)
