WEEK 2: Delight in Who Your Father Designed You To Be
DESTINY QUESTION: Father, Who do You say I am?
To know your DESTINY you need your Father’s perspective of your eternal identity – who you are in heaven. (Cook 2012) Your key life scriptures, and prophetic words spoken by others, may help you discern God’s answers to your DESTINY Questions. Seek God’s revelation of your DESTINY beyond these 40 days until you have clear answers to all these questions.
Pause to discern who you are from heaven’s perspective. Journal what you hear and how this helps define your DESTINY journey.
DELIGHT in your Father as your provider. He has prepared a feast and harvest for you! Does DESTINY imply life work to you? Tozer (2008 p38) says work is not our chief purpose, describing work as futility, “Moving things and rearranging them.” Work is part of God’s plan (Exodus 20:9) but God is our provider and source of our life purpose! If you want to grow strong in who your Father says you are, change your diet from futility to feasting; from your own negativity, doubt and unbelief to the wondrous banquet of God’s will for you. (Cooke 2012) Jesus said, “Every time I do the will of the Father who sent me, I enjoy a feast.” (John 4:34) “The word Jesus uses isn’t the common word for ‘food’, but it is a word that means ‘nutrients.’ It is also a homonym that is more commonly translated ‘kingdom.’” (John 4:34 TPT Notes) Jesus has a kingdom feast that no else knows about. In His kingdom, He meets all our needs and trains us in expectancy and favour as sons not servants, so we can come into our inheritance. All the resources of heaven are attached to our identity in Christ. Practice being who you really are until this becomes real. (Cook 2012) Fix your eyes on Jesus in thanksgiving and unite your heart to Jesus and you will not be hungry during this fast.
DELIGHT in doing the will of Jesus as the Lord of the Harvest. Jesus says, “Now is the time of harvest!” (John 4:35) “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you.” (Luke 10:2-3) Our obedience begins with a desire and a decision that arises from truly hearing Jesus sending us. We need God’s Vision, Intention & Means: (V-I-M). Seek a vision of Christlikeness in God’s kingdom – of life now and forever in God’s will and presence. Add to this your solid intention and decisions to trust Jesus and obey Him, and you will find the means to do what Jesus would do. “Where’s there’s a will there’s a way”’ when God is in it. (Willard 2002 p59-63) “A pervasive intention to make disciples would radically change the character of the church, the ‘visible’ people of God as we know it. The intention to make disciples is essential.” (Willard 1998 p333) “The person who has the easiest, the happiest, the strongest life is the person who walks in the yoke with Christ. (Matthew 11:28-30).” (Willard 2014b p14) “Disciples are those who have been so ravished with Christ that others want to be like them. Others look at these disciples’ life in the kingdom of God and say, “This is the best thing I ever saw in my life. I must have that.’” (Willard 2014b p17)
DESTINY BLESSING: Ask the Holy Spirit to seal your identity in Christ through your Father’s blessing
- DELIGHT in Jesus and His DESTINY for your life.
Jesus, I DELIGHT in You as my Saviour! I am convinced that You really are the true Saviour of the World (John 4:42). I seek Your DESTINY plans – Your vision, intentions and means so I can walk yoked with You, living from a place of rest, assurance, joy and strength. I pause here, Lord for Your revelation of who I am in You.
- Invite Jesus into your friends’ DESTINY.
Lord of the harvest, the friends I’m praying for are ripe for harvest. Holy Spirit, break down all the religious and intellectual stumbling blocks in their thinking and experience so they can come freely to Your banqueting table.
- Invite Jesus to transform the DESTINY of your region.
Jesus convict us as Your people, about what it means to worship You in spirit and truth, in our hearts and in the ripe harvest fields. Lord, You have sent us. Pour Your Holy Spirit on your church so we arise to bear witness to You wherever we go. We recognise that You are at work in the people we meet every day; that You have drawn many to conviction; and that they are waiting for us to bring the good news that Jesus has come to set them free. We will walk yoked with You so we do this together with You – easily, gently and humbly.
