WEEK 2: Delight in Who Your Father Designed You To Be
DESTINY QUESTION: Father, Who do You say I am?
To know your DESTINY you need your Father’s perspective of your eternal identity – who you are in heaven. (Cook 2012) Your key life scriptures, and prophetic words spoken by others, may help you discern God’s answers to your DESTINY Questions. Seek God’s revelation of your DESTINY beyond these 40 days until you have clear answers to all these questions.
Pause to discern who you are from heaven’s perspective. Journal what you hear and how this helps define your DESTINY journey.
DELIGHT in the passion of Jesus. “Jesus can be trusted to build His church!” (Willard 2014 p274) Jesus said, “I am consumed with a fiery passion to keep Your house pure!” (John 2:17) “Jesus’ ministry dealt directly with the destructive underbelly of ignorance, arrogance, legalism and moralism in religious life.” (Willard 2014 p147) In our generation the moral failures of prominent religious leaders is causing deep mistrust and confusion in the church and the world. Our hypocrisy, vanity, egotism, control, manipulation, hostility, fear, indifference and meanness is evident to those watching us. “Where you have envy and selfish ambition, you find disorder and every evil practice.” (James 3:16) The respect, patience, self-control and kindness of born again Christians should astound people, but David Kinnaman, from Barna Group comparing Christians and non-Christians found our lifestyles and relationships are not much different. (Willard 2014 p72)
“Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin”? (Proverbs 20:9)
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)
DELIGHT in the power of God to set you free to become who He has called you to be! Your God-ordained DESTINY is to be like Jesus and fully yourself! Hills (2014) said that it’s only when you begin to be your true self that you can appreciate that the Father loves you specifically. “The truth of the Gospel is that Father wants to come down and indwell you in your strengths and weaknesses, in your gifts and in your failures, so that His life will flow out through all of us.” (James 3:13-18) The path appointed by God for you is good. Nothing irredeemable has happened or can happen to us on our way to our DESTINY in God’s full world. (Willard 1998 p370) “Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.” (Philippians 2:12-13)
DELIGHT in being absolutely sure that it is good for you to be who God made you to be! Gratitude focuses us forward on the future that is ours in our Father’s awesome plan for us. Turn your heart also in honour, gratitude and respect towards your parents, the godly founding fathers in this land; and your spiritual fathers so you may enjoy long life in the land that the Lord Your God is giving you (Malachi 4:5,6 Exodus 20:12).
DISCERN: What God-given passion consumes you? Pursue this passion in partnership with God! Spend time waiting on the Lord for His revelation of how you are known in heaven.
DESTINY BLESSING: Ask the Holy Spirit to seal your identity in Christ through your Father’s blessing
- DELIGHT in Jesus and His DESTINY for your life.
Jesus, I DELIGHT in You as Truth. Set me free by revealing Your Truth in the place of my motives, concepts and constructs (John 2:24). Father, who do You say I am? Reveal this by revelation, scripture and the confirming insights of trusted friends so I can see who I am born to be. You love me and You know what is good for me! You know what I am capable of doing – for evil and for good. I passionately pursue Your heart.
- Invite Jesus into your friends’ DESTINY.
Spend some time discerning how God sees the friends you are praying for. Father, Set them free and inspire me to love them well. May Your passionate love for them be deeply known to them through how I love them.
- Invite Jesus to transform the DESTINY of your region.
Merciful Father, I lift to You the people in my immediate circle who are not free; all those who are captive to the schemes of the enemy. Show us how to work together with You and key leaders to see justice restore freedom. We pray for the addicted, those trapped in depression and abuse and financial burden; those trapped in human slavery; and those who free them in our nation and across the world. Spirit of God, expose evil and set us free!
